SELECTION AND REVIEW

Siam Astronomy will review eligible entries based on:

  • Correctness
  • Scientific accuracy
  • Clarity
  • Reasoning
  • Relevance
  • Completion of all 20 questions and required subparts
  • Completion of the participation requirements
  • Compliance with the activity rules

Likes, shares, views and follower counts will not determine the selected recipient.

The selection is merit-based and non-random.

FINAL SELECTION AUTHORITY

There will be one selected recipient only across all participating platforms combined.

Siam Astronomy reserves the sole and final authority to determine eligibility, review eligible submissions and select the recipient according to the published merit criteria, participation requirements and activity rules.

All eligibility determinations and final selection decisions are made solely by Siam Astronomy.

The decision of Siam Astronomy is final.

Public participation officially closes at 00:00 ICT on 4 November 2026.

The formal review period begins immediately at 00:00 ICT on 4 November 2026.

Siam Astronomy will review eligible submissions from all participating platforms and verify that all required questions, subparts and participation steps have been completed.

The review period continues until the scheduled public announcement at 00:00 ICT on 6 November 2026.

PUBLIC SELECTED RECIPIENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The one selected recipient is scheduled to be announced publicly at 00:00 ICT on 6 November 2026.

At the same official time, Siam Astronomy plans to release the official answer key and formally conclude the initial selection process through Press Release 006.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT INFORMATION

To identify the selected recipient publicly, Siam Astronomy may publish the selected participant's:
  • public username or account handle
  • public display name
  • publicly visible profile picture
  • platform on which the eligible entry was submitted

Only information already publicly visible on the participant's account may be used for the public selected-recipient announcement.

Siam Astronomy will not intentionally publish the selected participant's private home address, private telephone number, private email address or other private delivery information.

DO NOT POST PRIVATE INFORMATION PUBLICLY

Participants must not post their home address, telephone number, private email address or other sensitive contact details in public comments.

72-HOUR CONTACT REQUIREMENT

The selected participant must contact Siam Astronomy privately within 72 hours of the official announcement.

Because the announcement is scheduled for 00:00 ICT on 6 November 2026, the 72-hour contact period will expire at 00:00 ICT on 9 November 2026.

Private contact will be used to verify the selected participant and arrange prize delivery.

If the selected participant has not contacted Siam Astronomy by 00:00 ICT on 9 November 2026, the prize will be considered unclaimed.

Siam Astronomy may then cancel the original selection and open a new selection round in December 2026.

The exact opening date and other dates for any December round will be announced separately.

Unless that future announcement states otherwise, any officially announced December date will also take effect at 00:00 ICT (UTC+7).

ABOUT THE ACTIVITY

Siam Astronomy Youth Project

Siam Astronomy is an independent Thai educational media project covering astronomy, space, science and technology.

The Siam Astronomy Youth Project uses online media and educational activities to encourage curiosity, scientific reasoning and accessible science communication for young audiences.

Everest Autographs

Everest Autographs is a celebrity autograph company operated by Chris and Courtney Wyman.

For this activity, Everest Autographs donated the signed Isabella Sermon Funko prize.

The activity itself is organized and administered by Siam Astronomy through the Siam Astronomy Youth Project. Everest Autographs is the prize supporter.

The Siam Astronomy x Everest Autographs designation identifies support for this specific activity only. It does not describe a permanent partnership or wider corporate affiliation.

OFFICIAL 20-QUESTION SCIENCE CHALLENGE

The questions use straightforward science knowledge, short explanations and research-based reasoning.

They are designed so a motivated young participant can answer them using reliable sources.

No formulas or numerical calculations are required.

The official answer key will remain private throughout the participation and review period.

SCIENCE CHALLENGE | 01–05

01 — The dinosaur extinction event

About how many million years ago did the asteroid-linked mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous occur, and which dinosaur group still survives today?

02 — The Chicxulub crater

What is the name of the impact crater linked to the end-Cretaceous extinction, and where is it centred?

03 — Evidence for an asteroid impact

Name two examples of evidence scientists use to support the idea that a large asteroid struck Earth at the end of the Cretaceous.

04 — What happened after the impact?

Give one way the Chicxulub impact reduced sunlight reaching Earth's surface, and explain one effect this had on plants or food chains.

05 — Pterosaurs and dinosaurs

Were pterosaurs dinosaurs? Briefly explain how pterosaurs and dinosaurs were related.

SCIENCE CHALLENGE | 06–10

06 — Birds are living dinosaurs

Why do scientists describe modern birds as living dinosaurs?

07 — Meteoroid, meteor and meteorite

Match each term to the correct situation:

  • a small natural rock in space
  • the bright phenomenon seen as it passes through the atmosphere
  • a piece that survives to the ground

08 — The 2013 Chelyabinsk event

Did the Chelyabinsk object need to make a giant crater to cause damage?

State what caused much of the damage and injuries.

09 — Can carbon-14 date dinosaur fossils?

Could carbon-14 reliably date a dinosaur fossil that is about 70 million years old?

Give a short reason.

10 — Amber and dinosaur DNA

Why does a well-preserved insect in amber not automatically mean scientists have usable dinosaur DNA for cloning?

SCIENCE CHALLENGE | 11–15

11 — What is an asteroid?

In simple terms, what is an asteroid, and what does it orbit?

12 — What is a near-Earth object?

What does NEO stand for, and what kinds of Solar System objects can be classed as NEOs?

13 — What does PHA mean?

What does PHA stand for?

Does being labelled a PHA mean an asteroid is certain to hit Earth?

14 — What is planetary defense?

Name two things scientists or space agencies do as part of planetary defense against possible asteroid or comet hazards.

15 — What was DART?

What does DART stand for, and what planetary-defense idea was the mission designed to test?

SCIENCE CHALLENGE | 16–20

16 — DART's target

What was the name of the small asteroid moonlet that NASA's DART spacecraft intentionally hit?

17 — Didymos and Dimorphos

What larger asteroid does Dimorphos orbit, and did this asteroid system pose an impact threat to Earth during the DART test?

18 — How did scientists know DART worked?

What measurable change in Dimorphos after the impact showed that DART had changed its motion?

19 — What is a kinetic impactor?

Explain a kinetic impactor in simple words.

Why would a spacecraft deliberately collide with an asteroid?

20 — Communicating a possible impact

FICTIONAL EXERCISE ONLY:

If scientists report a 1% chance of an asteroid impact, does that mean an impact is certain?

Name two useful next steps scientists should take before making stronger claims.
