Siam Astronomy confirms youth science challenge dates ahead of schedule
Dinosaur & Science Communication Giveaway
THAILAND, 2 October 2026 - Siam Astronomy confirms that its Youth Project science challenge will run from 10 to 17 October 2026. This announcement provides the date confirmation ahead of schedule and releases the complete 20-question challenge in advance. The participation period remains unchanged.
The free online activity connects the appeal of Jurassic World with scientific reasoning about dinosaurs, extinction, geological evidence and planetary defense. Participants must answer every question in the comments of the official Siam Astronomy activity post.
Isabella Sermon signed Funko Pop! Movies: Maisie, No. 1215
From Jurassic World Dominion.
The prize was donated by Everest Autographs for this Siam Astronomy activity. One recipient will be selected through a review of eligible answers, rather than a random draw.

How to participate
All 20 questions and every requested subpart must be answered. No exceptions. An entry missing any question or required subpart is ineligible for selection.
- Follow or subscribe to Siam Astronomy.
- Share or repost the official activity announcement publicly and include the statement “I follow Siam Astronomy.” together with the official activity hashtags shown below.
- During 10-17 October 2026, submit your answers in the comments of the official Siam Astronomy activity post. Number them 1-20. If a platform length limit requires several comments, continue in replies under your initial comment and label the parts clearly.
- Address every requested explanation and subpart. Give a brief reason where asked. Research is encouraged; explain the material in your own words and identify supporting sources where useful.
- Follow the platform-specific instructions accompanying the official activity post. The publication of these questions in advance does not open the entry period early.

Selection and notification
Siam Astronomy will review eligible entries for correctness, scientific accuracy, clarity, reasoning, relevance, completion of the participation steps and rule compliance. Likes, shares, views or follower counts will not decide the recipient. The selection is merit-based and non-random.
The current target for announcing the recipient and publishing the official answers is 20 October 2026. The selected participant must contact Siam Astronomy privately within 72 hours of the announcement. Failure to respond may result in forfeiture and selection of another eligible participant.
Do not post your address or private contact details in public comments.
Dates refer to Thailand time (ICT, UTC+7). Official entry-post instructions provide any platform-specific timing details.

Official 20-question challenge
The questions use straightforward science knowledge, short explanations and research-based reasoning. They are designed so a motivated young participant can answer them using reliable sources; no formulas or numerical calculations are required.
The answer key is retained separately by the organizer and will not be released during participation. Official answers may be published only after the recipient has been selected and announced, currently targeted for 20 October 2026.
Science challenge | 01-05
Answer in the official post comments. All questions and requested subparts are mandatory. Research is allowed; answer in your own words.
01 The dinosaur extinction event
About how many million years ago did the asteroid-linked mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous occur, and which dinosaur group still survives today?
02 The Chicxulub crater
What is the name of the impact crater linked to the end-Cretaceous extinction, and where is it centred?
03 Evidence for an asteroid impact
Name two examples of evidence scientists use to support the idea that a large asteroid struck Earth at the end of the Cretaceous.
04 What happened after the impact?
Give one way the Chicxulub impact reduced sunlight reaching Earth's surface, and explain one effect this had on plants or food chains.
05 Pterosaurs and dinosaurs
Were pterosaurs dinosaurs? Briefly explain how pterosaurs and dinosaurs were related.
Science challenge | 06-10
Answer in the official post comments. All questions and requested subparts are mandatory. Research is allowed; answer in your own words.
06 Birds are living dinosaurs
Why do scientists describe modern birds as living dinosaurs?
07 Meteoroid, meteor and meteorite
Match each term to the correct situation: a small natural rock in space; the bright phenomenon seen as it passes through the atmosphere; and a piece that survives to the ground.
08 The 2013 Chelyabinsk event
Did the Chelyabinsk object need to make a giant crater to cause damage? State what caused much of the damage and injuries.
09 Can carbon-14 date dinosaur fossils?
Could carbon-14 reliably date a dinosaur fossil that is about 70 million years old? Give a short reason.
10 Amber and dinosaur DNA
Why does a well-preserved insect in amber not automatically mean scientists have usable dinosaur DNA for cloning?
Science challenge | 11-15
Answer in the official post comments. All questions and requested subparts are mandatory. Research is allowed; answer in your own words.
11 What is an asteroid?
In simple terms, what is an asteroid, and what does it orbit?
12 What is a near-Earth object?
What does NEO stand for, and what kinds of Solar System objects can be classed as NEOs?
13 What does PHA mean?
What does PHA stand for? Does being labelled a PHA mean an asteroid is certain to hit Earth?
14 What is planetary defense?
Name two things scientists or space agencies do as part of planetary defense against possible asteroid or comet hazards.
15 What was DART?
What does DART stand for, and what planetary-defense idea was the mission designed to test?
Science challenge | 16-20
Answer in the official post comments. All questions and requested subparts are mandatory. Research is allowed; answer in your own words.
16 DART's target
What was the name of the small asteroid moonlet that NASA's DART spacecraft intentionally hit?
17 Didymos and Dimorphos
What larger asteroid does Dimorphos orbit, and did this asteroid system pose an impact threat to Earth during the DART test?
18 How did scientists know DART worked?
What measurable change in Dimorphos after the impact showed that DART had changed its motion?
19 What is a kinetic impactor?
Explain a kinetic impactor in simple words. Why would a spacecraft deliberately collide with an asteroid?
20 Communicating a possible impact
FICTIONAL EXERCISE ONLY: If scientists report a 1% chance of an asteroid impact, does that mean an impact is certain? Name two useful next steps scientists should take before making stronger claims.
